LION Smart Production GmbH, part of LION E-Mobility Group, is expanding its stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS) business and strengthening its team with two internationally experienced experts. Winfried Wahl will serve as Head of BESS Strategy, while Sebastian Bujnoch will manage business and sales development, focusing on international supplier relationships and customer growth across Europe.
The personnel expansion underscores the strategic importance of the BESS segment as a key growth pillar for LION Smart. Stationary energy storage systems are critical for integrating renewable energy, stabilizing power grids, and enabling future-proof energy supply concepts. Winfried Wahl brings over 18 years of experience in photovoltaic systems and stationary energy storage. A graduate electrical engineer from RWTH Aachen University, he has expertise across the value chain, including technology positioning, market entry strategies, and regulatory requirements. Previously, he played key roles in European market entries for companies such as Hithium and LONGi, building brands and product portfolios. He also contributed to developments like the BNEF Tier 1 listing and reinsurance eligibility through Munich Re. As co-author of the IEA World Energy Outlook Special Report 2024 and a long-standing jury member of PV Magazine, Wahl has built an extensive network in the international energy industry. Since June 2026, he has been responsible for strategic development of LION Smart's BESS segment in Garching, focusing on refining strategic positioning, developing competitive product models, and expanding partnerships.
Sebastian Bujnoch complements the BESS team with extensive international leadership experience in manufacturing, operations, and the battery sector. His career spans strategic and operational responsibilities in complex international markets, with particular focus on China and Asian manufacturing markets. Over 16 years, he gained deep insights into industrial scaling, supply chain structures, and cross-border collaboration. At LION Smart, he will focus on building and scaling the BESS business unit, strengthening relationships with Chinese suppliers, and broadening the customer portfolio in Europe.
