NOMAD Power Solutions Advances $19M Vermont Energy Storage Project into Phase 3, Bolstering Grid Resilience

NOMAD Power Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: NMAD), through its wholly owned subsidiary NOMAD Transportable Power Systems, Inc., has received authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity to advance into Phase 3 of the approximately $19 million Vermont Long Duration Energy Storage Demonstration Project. This milestone moves the project into installation, integration, and construction, deploying up to eight NOMAD transportable battery energy storage systems across five sites in Green Mountain Power’s Vermont service territory.

The project is supported by a $9.5 million DOE award and an approximately 50% non-federal cost share, underscoring a collaborative public-private effort to modernize the electric grid. Phase 3 will incorporate NOMAD’s latest platform, featuring next-generation lithium iron phosphate batteries and microgrid-enabled controls, as the company demonstrates transportable energy storage as a flexible resource for utilities and critical power users.

NOMAD’s patented platform is designed to be moved among locations to support peak management, emergency response, planned maintenance, renewable energy integration, and other grid-resilience applications. Green Mountain Power has already utilized an existing NOMAD system for peak management and to maintain service to commercial customers during planned utility maintenance, validating the technology’s real-world benefits.

The advancement into Phase 3 signifies a critical step in proving the viability of mobile energy storage as a scalable solution for utilities facing increasing demands for reliability and clean energy integration. By deploying systems that can be relocated as needed, NOMAD offers a flexible alternative to fixed infrastructure, which is often costly and time-consuming to install. This capability is particularly valuable for remote or underserved areas where grid upgrades are challenging, and for emergency situations where power must be restored quickly.

For the industry, this project could set a precedent for how long-duration storage is financed and deployed, especially with federal support. The DOE’s involvement highlights the strategic importance of energy storage in achieving national clean energy goals, and the project’s success could influence future policy and investment decisions. For Vermont residents and businesses, the deployment of these systems promises enhanced grid reliability, reduced outage risks, and smoother integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind, which are intermittent by nature.

NOMAD’s transportable systems also address the growing need for grid resilience in the face of extreme weather events exacerbated by climate change. By providing rapid-deployment capabilities, utilities can better prepare for and respond to disruptions, minimizing economic and social impacts. As the project progresses, stakeholders will be watching closely to assess the performance of the next-generation batteries and microgrid controls, which are expected to deliver improved efficiency and safety.

The company’s progress is part of a broader movement toward mobile energy storage solutions across North America. With headquarters in Waterbury, Vermont, NOMAD is at the forefront of this innovation, aiming to redefine how utility-scale storage is delivered. The Phase 3 authorization not only advances a significant demonstration project but also reinforces the potential of transportable storage to support a more resilient, sustainable, and flexible electric grid.
