FleetCollect, a trucking compliance software platform based in Carson, California, has unveiled a new AI connector that enables owner-operators and small fleets to interact with their critical data using plain language. The connector, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), integrates with AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT, allowing users to ask questions about IFTA fuel tax, DOT compliance, and carrier information without navigating complex dashboards.
For many small carriers, essential operational data is scattered across quarterly IFTA reports, driver files, dispatch logs, and federal databases. Traditionally, accessing this information required opening the right screens and manually reading through records. The FleetCollect connector eliminates this step: once a user connects their account to an AI assistant, they can simply ask questions and receive direct answers. For example, a trucker might ask, 'What were my IFTA miles by state for the last quarter?' or 'Which of my drivers have documents expiring in the next 30 days?' The AI pulls from the user's own FleetCollect data to provide immediate, understandable responses.
In addition to personal fleet data, the connector offers live FMCSA carrier vetting. Users can input a USDOT or MC number to access up-to-date information from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, including operating authority, insurance, and safety records. This feature is particularly useful for brokers and dispatchers who need to verify partners without leaving the conversation.
Security and privacy are paramount in the design of this connector. All 14 tools are read-only, meaning the AI can only retrieve and summarize information—it cannot alter, delete, or initiate actions. Driver personally identifiable information, such as emails, phone numbers, and license numbers, is filtered out and never returned. Each request is scoped to the authenticated account, ensuring that operators only see their own data. The connector uses OAuth 2.1 with Dynamic Client Registration and PKCE, a modern authentication standard, allowing users to authorize access with their existing FleetCollect login and revoke it at any time.
'Owner-operators didn't get into trucking to click through dashboards,' said Herman Armstrong, founder of FleetCollect. 'We built this so a driver can just ask—what do I owe in IFTA, which of my guys is about to expire, is this carrier legit—and get a straight answer from their own numbers. We made it read-only and privacy-filtered on purpose: it answers questions, it doesn't touch your data.'
The connector is available now to customers with an active FleetCollect subscription and is being submitted to the Claude connector directory and the ChatGPT app directory.
