The Nordex Group has received orders from the EFG Energy Farming Group for the supply and installation of twelve wind turbines across several citizen wind projects in Lower Saxony, Germany. The projects, named “Erlte-Endel” and “Bad Essen,” will have a combined installed capacity of approximately 82 megawatts (MW). Each contract includes a 20-year Premium Service agreement, ensuring long-term operational support.
For the “Erlte-Endel” wind farm, located in the district of Vechta, Nordex will supply and install five N175/6.X turbines on hybrid towers with a hub height of 179 meters. The “Bad Essen” project cluster in the district of Osnabrück will feature seven turbines: five N175/6.X on 179-meter towers and two N163/6.X turbines with a hub height of 164 meters. This cluster comprises four separate wind energy projects: Langewiesen-Nord, Langewiesen-Süd, Rabber Wiesen, and the Wimmerbruch repowering project.
Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2026, with turbine installation planned for 2027 and commissioning expected in spring 2028. The wind farms are developed by EFG Energy Farming Group and will be operated by local landowners and regional citizen wind companies, underscoring the collaborative nature of these initiatives.
“With the wind farms in Erlte-Endel and Bad Essen, we are implementing two projects together with Nordex that demonstrate how wind energy use and regional value creation can go hand in hand,” said Reiner Borgmeyer, Managing Director of EFG Energy-Farming Holding GmbH. “Landowners and community energy companies have been involved from the outset, ensuring that the energy transition remains firmly anchored locally.”
Karsten Brüggemann, Vice President Region Europe of the Nordex Group, added, “These two projects are exemplary of the successful combination of regional commitment and modern wind energy technology. Together with our long-standing customer, the EFG Energy Farming Group, we are creating wind farms that not only make an important contribution to the energy transition, but also enable reliable and sustainable electricity generation for many years to come thanks to their high efficiency.”
The EFG Energy Farming Group, based in Bad Essen, has been developing, planning, and implementing wind energy projects in Germany for many years. The company supports projects from site development and permitting through to implementation, relying on close cooperation with landowners, municipalities, and regional citizen wind companies. The Nordex Group, with over 64 GW of installed wind power capacity across more than 40 markets since 1985, continues to expand its footprint in onshore wind energy, focusing on turbines in the 4 to 7 MW+ classes designed for markets with limited space and constrained grid capacity.
These orders highlight the growing trend of community-owned renewable energy projects in Germany, which are seen as vital to achieving the country's ambitious climate goals. By involving local stakeholders from the outset, the projects ensure broad acceptance and long-term sustainability. The use of high-efficiency turbines and long-term service agreements also promises reliable electricity generation for decades, contributing to the stability of the regional energy supply.
The initiative aligns with broader European efforts to increase renewable energy capacity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. As Germany transitions away from nuclear and coal power, projects like these are essential to meet rising electricity demand while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The successful implementation of these wind farms could serve as a model for similar community-driven energy projects across the region.
