James Childers, MBA, MSML, has been named a 2026 Future of Field Service Stand Out 50 Leader, placing the Long Beach-area service executive in an international, cross-industry group of leaders recognized for their impact on the evolving service landscape.
The 2026 Stand Out 50 recipients were announced September 24 during Future of Field Service Live in London, according to the announcement. The annual recognition celebrates peer-nominated leaders who are making a meaningful impact through innovative approaches, authentic leadership and exceptional execution of service strategies.
For the Long Beach and surrounding business community, the recognition highlights the caliber of operational leadership emerging from the region's service and mechanical contracting sector. Childers currently serves as Vice President of Service and Automation – California and Nevada at Intech Mechanical Company, Inc., where he holds executive responsibility for service operations across both markets. His career spans 22 years in the service industry, including more than two decades of progressively broader operational and executive leadership.
His experience covers service operations, business development, organizational growth and executive leadership, with a career focused on building high-performing teams, strengthening operational performance and creating organizations positioned for sustainable growth. Over the course of his career, Childers has worked at multiple levels of the service business, from the operational realities of supporting customers and field teams to executive responsibility for financial performance, organizational structure, growth strategy and leadership development.
Following the announcement, Childers and the 2026 Stand Out 50 class were featured on the Nasdaq digital billboard in Times Square in New York City.
"Twenty-two years ago, I had no idea where a career in service would take me," Childers said. "Seeing my face in Times Square is something I never could have imagined. But what makes this recognition meaningful isn't the billboard. It's the people who helped build the road that led there — the technicians who taught me the business, the leaders who took chances on me, the customers who trusted us and the teams I've had the privilege to lead."
Childers' approach to leadership has been shaped by more than two decades in an industry where strategy must ultimately translate into execution and where long-term success depends heavily on the people responsible for delivering it.
"Service has taught me that leadership is ultimately about responsibility," Childers said. "You can have the right strategy and the right plan, but none of it matters if you can't build a team capable of executing it. Sustainable growth comes from developing good people, creating strong systems, setting clear expectations and building a culture where people take ownership of the outcome."
His perspective has shaped his belief that successful service organizations must balance customer experience, employee development, operational discipline and financial performance rather than treating them as competing priorities.
"The longer I've been in this business, the more convinced I've become that great organizations aren't built around one person," Childers said. "They're built by creating an environment where good people can do exceptional work. My name might be on the billboard, but there are a lot of fingerprints on it."
Childers is a U.S. Navy veteran and holds a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Science in Management and Leadership, and a bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership.
The recognition carries implications beyond one executive's resume. As service organizations across Southern California contend with labor shortages, technology shifts and rising customer expectations, the Stand Out 50 platform draws attention to leaders who treat workforce development and operational discipline as intertwined. For companies in and around Long Beach that depend on field service — from mechanical contractors to equipment maintenance providers — Childers' emphasis on building teams capable of execution offers a template for sustainable growth. The visibility that comes with an international honor and a Times Square billboard also underscores that service leadership, often behind the scenes, is increasingly being recognized as a strategic business function.
