Garuda Indonesia Offers 170,000 Free Domestic Seats to Boost Multi-Destination Travel

Garuda Indonesia has announced a major initiative to enhance Indonesia's appeal as a multi-destination travel hub. The national flag carrier is offering 170,845 domestic roundtrip seats at no additional fare to eligible international passengers flying to Indonesia from 14 origin cities across 10 countries. This program, available for travel from 1 August to 30 November 2026, is designed to encourage visitors to extend their journeys beyond the main international gateways of Jakarta and Denpasar.

The free domestic flights are part of the airline's #DiscoverMoreIndonesia campaign, which aims to increase the economic impact of each international arrival by enabling travelers to explore multiple destinations within a single trip. By connecting international routes with domestic ones, Garuda Indonesia hopes to disperse visitor flows and tourism spending more evenly across the archipelago, benefiting hotels, restaurants, local transportation, tourism operators, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in various regions.

Garuda Indonesia's Marketing Group Head, Prina Eka Putri, emphasized that Indonesia offers far more than just one destination. "By making onward domestic travel easier, we want international travelers to stay longer, explore more regions, and experience more of what Indonesia has to offer," she said. The initiative also strengthens the airline's competitive position in international markets by leveraging its extensive domestic network to offer seamless multi-stop itineraries.

Agnus Gallus Pratama, Southeast Asia Branch Manager and Head of the Free Domestic Flight Project Management Office, highlighted the economic rationale behind the program. "The opportunity is not only to bring more travelers into Indonesia, but to enable each arrival to reach more destinations. When visitors travel further and stay longer, the economic impact can extend to various sectors across regions," he explained.

Eligible passengers holding roundtrip international tickets to Indonesia can add a domestic roundtrip journey at no extra cost, provided they meet the program's terms and conditions. The initiative also supports Indonesian diaspora members, migrant workers, and citizens returning from overseas by offering additional connectivity to their home regions.

This strategic move comes as regional destinations compete for international visitor traffic. By integrating international and domestic connectivity, Garuda Indonesia aims to create greater value from each arrival while supporting the growth of local tourism ecosystems.
