Northgate González Market has launched Familia Fútbol, a comprehensive World Cup 2026 campaign celebrating the culture, food, and passion for soccer that unites Latino families across generations. The campaign, which officially began with a launch event at the historic Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California, will continue through the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final in June 2026. The campaign honors both biological families and chosen families—the people gathered to cheer, celebrate, and share meals during soccer events. With Mexico opening the 2026 World Cup tournament at Estadio Azteca in a culturally significant moment for the Latino community, Northgate González Market aims to serve as the cultural headquarters for World Cup celebrations in Southern California.
"Soccer is not just a sport for our families, it is memories, identity, and pride," said Oscar González, Co-President of Northgate González Market. Familia Fútbol features an impressive roster of Mexican cultural legends and sports icons representing various pillars of community identity. Boxing champion Julio César Chávez represents loyalty and pride, while legendary goalkeeper Jorge Campos embodies joy and creativity. Luchador El Hijo del Santo symbolizes generational inheritance, and actress Angélica María serves as the campaign's matriarch, anchoring family tradition. Representing the next generation is Scarlett Camberos, a star of the Mexican women's national team. The campaign also includes the legacy of iconic singer Pedro Infante, providing emotional warmth and nostalgia.
Additional soccer legends participating include Paco Palencia, Claudio Suárez, Ramón Morales, Braulio Luna, Francisco "Maza" Rodríguez, and Carlos Hermosillo—all World Cup veterans with deep community connections. The official launch event at the Yost Theater was hosted by former Mexican soccer player Mariano Trujillo and sports journalist Livette Ruvalcaba, bringing together press, content creators, market leadership, vendors, and community members for an immersive cultural evening featuring memorabilia, live entertainment, and interactions with campaign talent.
Northgate González Market will bring game-day flavors to life by offering families everything needed to celebrate the World Cup at home, including freshly marinated carne asada, handmade guacamole, aguas frescas, botanas, and ready-to-serve party trays. Throughout the tournament, stores will highlight game-day favorites that transform matches into shared moments with family and friends. The campaign will unfold through a series of activations across Southern California, including meet-and-greet events featuring Julio César Chávez, El Hijo del Santo, and Angélica María; eight Familia Fútbol Fan Fests transforming Northgate Market parking lots into community stadiums from April through June; youth soccer clinics in partnership with Pixixi led by Mexican soccer legends; a Mother's Day World Cup Makeover Sweepstakes from April 15 to May 10; and a Father's Day Carne Asada Event along with World Cup Final viewing parties in June.
