ACE Resource Network's 'Together in Healing' campaign, launched in February, is making strides in uplifting the Sacramento community affected by childhood trauma. The initiative aims to foster resilience and empower individuals with resources and support. Billboards, bus stops, and bus tails throughout Sacramento County spread messages of healing and hope, leveraging partnerships with local media outlets. The campaign has also partnered with Bloggin' Mamas to mobilize bloggers and influencers nationwide to share its message.
On Thursday, April 4, 2024, ACE Resource Network will host an Instagram Live session with renowned psychologist and trauma specialist Dr. Edith Shiro on the @MyNumberStory account. Attendees can connect with Dr. Shiro, ask questions, and engage with the community. Copies of her book, The Unexpected Gift of Trauma: The Path to Posttraumatic Growth, will be given away during the event. Later this month, an influencer video campaign will launch, featuring personal narratives and resources to inspire and educate on healing strategies.
The campaign culminates on May 2nd with a 'Coffee Con Conchas' event at Vizcaya Sacramento, where attendees can experience stress-reducing activities and learn coping strategies to support healing from childhood adversity. 'It's our hope that the Together in Healing campaign encourages conversation and connection to resources among people seeking to address the challenging effects of childhood trauma and adversity,' said Joy Thomas, Director of Communications and Community Engagement for ACE Resource Network.
This campaign matters because childhood trauma has lasting impacts on mental and physical health, and community-based initiatives like this provide accessible pathways to healing. By combining public awareness through Bloggin' Mamas partnerships with direct engagement opportunities like the Instagram Live with Dr. Shiro, the campaign addresses both stigma reduction and practical support. The inclusion of events like 'Coffee Con Conchas' creates safe spaces for community connection, which research shows is crucial for trauma recovery.
The implications extend beyond immediate participant support, as increased public dialogue about childhood trauma can influence policy and resource allocation. When communities visibly prioritize trauma-informed approaches through campaigns like this, it normalizes seeking help and challenges isolation often associated with adverse childhood experiences. The campaign's multi-platform approach—from physical billboards to digital influencer content—ensures it reaches diverse audiences across different media consumption habits.
By providing free resources like Dr. Shiro's book and hosting accessible events, the campaign reduces financial barriers to trauma support. This is particularly important in underserved communities where mental health resources may be limited. The timing is also significant, as post-pandemic mental health needs have highlighted the urgency of community-based trauma response systems. Ultimately, such initiatives contribute to building more resilient communities where individuals affected by childhood adversity can find validation, resources, and collective healing pathways.
